

Carolyn Leake McKowen died at home Wednesday, October 12, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born April 21, 1930 in Natchez, MS and raised in Baton Rouge, LA. A graduate of Louisiana State University, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She married David McKowen January 31, 1951. They were married for 53 years until his death in 2004. She later married Dan Mundinger until his death in 2017. She had a love of cooking, reading, and spending time with her family. She is survived by four of her children: her son David McKowen, Jr., MD, and wife Ali of Andalusia, AL, and their children, David III, Andrew, and Walter; her son John McKowen and wife Debbie of Baton Rouge and their children Laura and Christie; her son H. Carson McKowen, MD, and wife Michelle of Austin, TX and their children Todd, Erin, Kelly, Anna Laura, Madeleine, and Joshua; the children of her son Feltus B. McKowen; Elisabeth, Catherine, Thomas, Edward, Charles, Margaret, and Caroline; her daughter, Carolyn McKowen Bourgeois and husband Butler of Baton Rouge and their children Katie, Butler, Carson, and Libby. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Feltus Barrow Leake and Elizabeth Carson Leake; her brother Feltus Barrow Leake, Jr.; her first husband David McKowen, MD; her second husband Daniel Moore Mundinger; her son Feltus Barrow McKowen; and her grandson Robert Huntington McKowen. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, October 19 at Roselawn Memorial Park, officiated by the Reverend Ralph Howe. Following the service, friends and family are invited to the home of Butler and Carolyn Bourgeois for a celebration of her life.
