
Charles E. Severance Jr. died of cancer at age 54 on Friday, Sept. 5, 2008, in Dallas in the presence of his loving family. A native of Baton Rouge and a longtime resident of Irving, Texas, Charlie is survived by his parents, Charles and Winifred Loudon Severance; siblings and their spouses, Susan Severance, Ann Severance, Kay Severance Rice, Barbara and Tommy Duhon, and Bill and Anke Severance; and nieces and nephews, Liz, Patrick and Paul Rice, Anna and Caroline Duhon, and Charles, Emma and Klara Severance. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Elmo and Gertrude Swayze Loudon and William James and Malissie McAlister Severance; and his godmother, Madge Loudon Bueche. Charlie had a kind and generous heart. He was instrumental in establishing with the family the Charles E. Severance Endowed Fellowship at LSU. Charlie was faithful in his Sunday night phone calls and his visits to his family in Baton Rouge. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephews fishing on the family pier at False River, as well as attending the activities and events of the children. He was honored to serve as godfather to three of his nieces and nephews, Patrick, Anna and Charles. Charlie graduated from LSU with a degree in finance and loved the history and beauty of LSU and the rich tradition of LSU football. He was a member of the Dallas-Forth Worth LSU Alumni Association. Charlie worked for many years at IBM as an information technology consultant. Charlie was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Coppell, Texas. Charlie was a gentleman with a great sense of humor. He had a keen interest in Louisiana and national politics. He enjoyed genealogy, Cajun music, travel, cooking, tennis and his Baton Rouge heritage. He held a lifelong interest in 4-H and livestock activities. Charlie loved hunting, fishing and camping and was a lifetime member of the National Sporting Clays Association. He supported wildlife conservation efforts and sponsored a waterfowl habitat in Canada. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 2025 Stuart St., on Monday at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Bueche, Tommy Duhon, Patrick Rice, Paul Rice, Don Wilsdon and Wayne Downs. Honorary pallbearers are Frank Bueche, Michael Bueche, Dr. C.J. Naquin, C.A. Bueche and James Price. Memorials may be made through Masses, the Charles E. Severance Endowed Fellowship in care of the LSU Foundation, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, or the East Baton Rouge Parish 4-H Foundation.
