
Clare Maddox (nee Margaret Clare Joachim) born March 15, 1915, in Biloxi, Miss., died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, in Baton Rouge. Visitation at St. Jude Catholic Church on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Survived by three sons and their wives, Mike and Mary Camille Traweek Maddox, Steve and Faith Ohlmeyer Maddox, and Tim and Diane Lirette Maddox; brothers, Mark Joachim, Jack Joachim and Harry Joachim; grandchildren, Christen, David and Mary Beth Maddox, Carl and wife Amanda Radosti Maddox, Clare Maddox Berthelot and husband Lee, Michelle Maddox Burnette and husband Greg, and Nicole, Danielle and Scott Maddox; great-grandsons, Bishop and Beckett Burnette; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Carl Maddox; parents, U.S. and Stella Gillen Joachim; sister, Marilyn Joachim Janca; and grandson, Brett Shannon Maddox; sisters-in-law, Catherine 'Putta' Chinn Joachim, Rose Navarro Joachim, Patricia Streiff Joachim and Faye Guillory Maddox; and brothers-in-law, Kier Maddox and Frank Janca. Clare, Biloxi's "Miss Fine of 39," enjoyed life wherever Carl's career in athletics took them. She was a wonderful hostess and entertained many during their years at LSU and Mississippi State University. Clare was happiest when caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her sons, grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Many thanks to her primary caregiver, her son Mike, who lived with her in order to care for her every need; her caregivers, Mary Ross, Brandy Manning, Reneé Barber, Janice Antoine, Eunice Blount, Annette Day and Zenolia Lee. With their dedication and loving care, Clare was able to live in her home until the end.
