
D.P. Boggans, a native of Liberty, MS and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, at our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center at age 94. He was a deacon at Winbourne Baptist Church and later a member of Jefferson Baptist Church. He was a WWII Army veteran and retired from Ethyl Corp. In his younger years, life was all about vegetable gardens, fishing, hunting, and raising honey bees. He is survived by two daughters, Brenda B. Walton and husband Dr. Charles D., and Evelyn B. Welch and husband Roy L.; one Sister Estelle White; three grandchildren and spouses, Laurie W. Smith and husband Christian, Nathan E. Welch and wife Jennifer K., and Charles D. Walton Jr. and wife Angela L.; five great-grandchildren, Taylor G. Jones, Evan B. and Jacob L. Welch, Alli Smith, and Kate E. Walton; two step-grandchildren, Steven L. Welch and wife Laura, and Stephanie W. Vaughn and fiance Derek Howerter; five step great-grandchildren, Chris L., Scott M., and Joshua L. Welch, and Ashlyn A. and Victoria L. Vaughn. Preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Aline H. Boggans; parents, Tex and Mattie Tommie Boggans; and three brothers and four sisters. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Thursday, Oct. 13, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes Friday from 10 a.m. until religious services at noon, conducted by Rev. Jim Nichols. Interment at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Nathan E. Welch, Roy L. Welch, Steven L. Welch, Alvin Howze, Thomas Howze, Houston Laird, and Ray Harrison.
