

He was born in Tifton, Georgia to Council Jacob Decker and Ernestine Mathews Decker, both deceased. He grew up in Tifton and Moultrie, then attended Georgia Institute of Technology where he earned a degree in civil engineering. He had a distinguished career with Federal Highway Administration, retiring as the Division Administrator for the Ohio office. Thereafter he worked for the Louisiana Department of Transportation and retired as Assistant Secretary for the Office of Multimodal Planning.
Dennis was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and was known for his devotion to his family. He loved pulling for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets football and baseball teams with his distinctive ‘alright!’ cheer. He enjoyed undertaking building projects, his most recent in Jesup where he cleared a rural property for camping and enjoyed spending peaceful time in his home state of Georgia.
Survived by his wife of thirty years Cindy Hearn Decker; children Jessica Hawk (Allen), Janet Shafer (Scott), Lindsay Faulk Terry (David) and Jamie Faulk Mooney; grandchildren AJ and Gaby Hawk, Audrey and Bennett Shafer, Blaire Mooney, James and Charlotte Terry. Also survived by sister Sarah Tesney and brother Johnny Decker, sister-in-law Barbra Hearn West and brother-in-law Brooks Hearn (Sonia); dear friends Allen and Frances McBrayer, former spouse Jane Cooley Olmstead, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephew.
A visitation will be held at Jefferson United Methodist Church on Friday, September 2 from 9 am until funeral service at 10 am. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Please visit www.greenoaksfunerals.com to leave condolences to the family.
