Dollie Idell Metcalfe Boeneke, lovingly called "Nanny", passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the age of 94 (or by her account, the age of 39). A native of Centreville, Mississippi and a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she was born on February 20, 1930, to the late Wade Metcalfe and Ruby Hastings Metcalfe.
Dollie survived by her sons, Rudolph C. "Dolph" Boeneke Jr. (Teressa), R. Darrell Boeneke, (Toni), and S. Dwight Boeneke, (Jennie). She was the grandmother of Michael Boeneke (Heather), Brandon Boeneke (Thomasina), Brandi Boeneke (Matthew), Joshua Boeneke (Meleia), Brittany Graffagnini (Ryan), and Rudolph C. "Chase" Boeneke III (Amanda) and the great grandmother of, Brennan, Brayden, Bradley, Adlynne, Whitney, Braxton, Bennett, Brynn, Marielle, Audrey, and Liliane. Dollie was the step grandmother of Jason Lofton, Brandon Lofton (Rosa); Megan Potter and Wendi Aucoin (Chris) and the step great grandmother of Mason Lofton, Jonah Lofton, Annabelle Lofton, Alexander Lofton, Abigail Lofton, Bennett Lofton, Benjamin Lofton, Caroline Aucoin, Ava Aucoin and Courtland Potter, along with her sister-in-law Joan Boeneke, loving and caring friends, Jerry Guillory, Gloria Nemeth, and Maria Arias, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Rudolph C. "Rudy" Boeneke Sr.; her siblings, Adale Metcalfe, Lillie "Peewee" Rushings, Mary Anthony, Jennings Metcalfe, Barney Wade Metcalfe, and Ruby Lee Greenhill; and special friend, Eddye Boeneke.
Anyone who knew Dollie would confirm that her personality was as fiery as her red hair - fun, feisty and full of life and energy. Dollie attended Central High School before becoming a dedicated employee of South-Central Bell (AT&T) where she made lifelong friends. She had a drive to have a meaningful career while caring and cooking "in big pots" for her boys and their friends. After retirement, she completely devoted her life to her family, grandchildren, and charitable work through the Telephone Pioneers of America, where she served multiple terms as president. She had a heart and calling to take care of others. Whether it was a home cooked meal, a listening ear or words of tough love or encouragement, Dollie will certainly leave a lasting mark on the lives of many. She built a beautiful life and loved traveling with Rudy, logging many miles in their RV. She never met a stranger and loved getting to know new neighbors from her front porch. She was a member of St Paul's Lutheran Church in Baton Rouge.
Pallbearers are Michael Boeneke, Brandon Boeneke, Joshua Boeneke, Chase Boeneke, Brennan Boeneke, and Ryan Graffagnini. Honorary pallbearers are Braxton Graffagnini, Bennett Graffagnini, and Mason Lofton.
The family would like to thank Audubon Hospice and Francois Bend for all their special care and support in her last few months.
