

Don “Coach” Hooks of Baton Rouge passed away on November 17, 2022 at the age of 87. An educator, coach, businessman and US Air Force veteran, he cherished the many friendships he made over the years. He was a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather and member of the 1953 Istrouma High Indians football team. Coach Hooks loved reminiscing about high school football with friends, spending time with his family at the beach and working on his 1969 Ford Mustang. He is preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Thomas and Edith Hooks; his mother, Lella Bush Hooks; and an infant daughter, Cherí Hooks. He is survived by his stepsister, Faye Croswell; the mother of his children, Tanya Hernandez Hooks; his daughter, Lisa Murray; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and the Reverend Lynn Hooks; his daughter and son-in-law, Mikel and Scottie McClure; his grandchildren, Logan Murray (Jonathann LaBatt), Ryan Hooks, Hannah McClure, Lara Murray, Maggie McClure (Landon Watts), Rachel Hooks Richardson (Luke Richardson) and Raphe Hooks; and his great-granddaughter, Frances Watts-McClure. He will be remembered as the best Pops, a great dad, a good friend and a fair-to-middling fisherman. Pallbearers are Michael Hooks, Ryan Hooks, Raphe Hooks, Logan Murray, Scottie McClure and Eddie Olsen. Visitation on Monday, November 21, 5pm-7pm and Tuesday, November 22, 8am-9:30am at Greenoaks Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Graveside service to follow at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
