
A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, she passed away Friday, Aug. 17, at The Butterfly Wing of The Hospice of Baton Rouge. She was 84. Visiting at Temple B'nai Israel, 3354 Kleinert Ave., Sunday, Aug. 19, from 12 p.m. until religious services at 2 p.m. conducted by Rabbi Jordan Goldson and Rabbi Barry Weinstein. Survived by a son, Fred Preis, and his wife, Sue, of New Orleans, and a daughter Julie Preis Nachman and husband, Leonard. Also survived by six grandchildren and their spouses, Randall and Elizabeth Nachman; Lauren Nachman Ritchey and husband, Sean; Catherine Nachman Thigpen and husband, Grady, of New Orleans; and Spencer and Lani Preis, Kevin and Shaina Preis, and Matt and Melanie Preis, all of Atlanta. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, a sister, Leslie Weill Marcus, and her husband, Richard, of Vicksburg, Miss., and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Sue was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School and attended LSU, where she was voted a beauty. She was a lifelong member of Congregation B'nai Israel and its Sisterhood and was the 2012 recipient of the President's Award for outstanding service to the congregation. She was known as the "CEO" of the Seniors' Saturday Night Supper Club. Preceded in death by her husband, Ernst Preis; parents Julius and Doris Weill and brother Gus Weill. Pallbearers will be her six grandsons. The family wishes to thank the dear and devoted physicians, nurses, employees and volunteers at the Butterfly Inpatient Unit, Hospice of Baton Rouge.
