
A beloved wife and mother, Dorothy "Dottie" Merritt died in the early morning hours of Monday, May 14, 2007, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. A native of Mount Hope, W.Va., she was 86, born on April 9, 1921. She attended Marshall University and later worked in Charleston, W.Va., where she met her husband, chemical engineer Richard T. Merritt. In 1957, they moved to Baton Rouge and through the years participated in a variety of community and social organizations. She will be remembered fondly for her warm personality, wonderful sense of humor and many acts of kindness. Visiting at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 19, from 1 p.m. until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by Chris H. Andrews, pastor. She is survived by her husband, Richard T. Merritt; daughter, Ann M. Masson of New Orleans; son-in-law, Frank W. Masson of New Orleans; niece, Dorothy Prince White of Virginia Beach, Va.; nephew, Joe Prince of Wilmington, Del.; cousin, Ben F. Glisan of Houston; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. James Place Foundation. Rabenhorst Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
