Dorothy Mae Smith, born on December 8, 1947 in New Orleans, passed away on February 12, 2026, at the age of 78. A resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dorothy was a kind-hearted, compassionate, generous, and humorous person who left a lasting impact on those who knew her.
Throughout her life, Dorothy was dedicated to helping others, a passion that was evident in her career. She taught adult literacy, sharing her knowledge and skills with those eager to learn and improve their lives.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Linda Smith; her brother, Melvin Curtis; her cousins, Regina Peterson and Barbara Baldwin; and her god-daughter, Lisa Green.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvel and Arthur Smith; her aunts, Laura Jacob, Gertrude Peterson, and Violet Williams; her uncle, Warren Augustine; and her grandparents, Joseph and Gertrude Augustine.
