Steve attended LSU and graduated from Loyola University School of Dentistry. He then entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Philippine Islands during the Korean War. Upon his return, he entered the orthodontic certificate program at Columbia University in NYC, where he met the love of his life, his Pan Am International Stewardess, Dotty. Upon graduation, the two married and moved south where Steve opened his private practice of orthodontics in Baton Rouge and Hammond until his retirement. He was a member of 6th District Dental Association, LA Dental Association, and American Dental Association. He was a member of Louisiana and American Associations of Orthodontics. He was honored by the Victor Vignes Honor Society at Loyola and the American College of Dentists as well as a Fellow in the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He was past president of the 6th District Dental Association and LA Orthodontic Association. He was a life member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and Delta Sigma Delta Dental fraternity. He was a past Master of St. James #47 Masonic Lodge, Washington Chapter #5, BR Council #11, and Plains Commandry #11 of Knights Templar, and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
Steve was an avid golfer and member of Baton Rouge Country Club until he could no longer see well enough to chase the ball. He was known to play a hand or two of gin rummy and the love of playing gin spread to both Dotty and his girls. He represented Louisiana at the Senior Olympics in golf. He was also an avid duck and deer hunter which he also shared with his girls. Steve was gifted with a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed decades of membership in the St. James Episcopal Church choir and the Baton Rouge Symphony Chorus. Upon his retirement, Steve trained in tax preparation and volunteered his time preparing returns for the elderly. Above all, Steve was devoted to his family, enduring a household of all women for so many years.
The family would like to thank so many people who were devoted to their father, in particular during these last years without Dotty who was both his eyes and ears in so many ways. He had various angels-on-earth including Marcella Babcock, Margie DiJohn, Mike Loupe, Amber Moreau, DeShona Plummer, Edrick Jenkins, and Bob and Claire Roe. We are also grateful to the staff at St. James Place Wellness Center who didn’t just take care of our dad but cared about him, including Courtney, Val, Linda, Dee and so many other special people. The family is grateful to the compassionate care of Hospice of Baton Rouge, and by that we mean Suzie Boudinot, and asks that, if preferred to sending flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge, 3600 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA 70806.
