
A loving husband and father, Edward Clements Mulligan, 80, died at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Ed was a resident of Baton Rouge since 1970 and retired with 40 years of service from Ethyl Corp. as director of international sales and marketing. The eldest of seven children, Ed was born June 9, 1927, in Lee's Summit, Mo. He graduated from Rockhurst College, Kansas City, Mo., and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Sechrest Mulligan, who shared with him 57 years of marriage; two daughters and a son-in-law, Terry Gitnick and Margaret and David Nardecchia; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dan Mulligan, and Michael and Mary Mulligan; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Millie and Robert Cox, Lottie and Bud Cianciolo, and Janet Mulligan; three brothers, Milton and wife Mary Ann Mulligan, C. Thomas Mulligan and Jay Shapiro, and Patrick Mulligan; sister-in-law, Nancy Sechrest; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mamie and Gerald Mulligan; a son-in-law, Ben Gitnick; and his brother-in-law, Charles Sechrest. Ed was an active member for more than 30 years of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, and was recently recognized for his service during the past 20 years on many parish committees, including the finance council, the stewardship committee and the "Season of Promise, Season of Giving" campaign. He was a resident of Westchester and Rockland counties, both of New York, for 17 years, and a resident of Waterloo, Belgium, for three years. He enjoyed world travel and was an avid golfer. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday, March 7, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Saturday from noon until funeral Mass at 1 p.m., concelebrated by the Rev. Mike Moroney, the Rev. Tom Duhe and the Rev. Joseph Arogyasami. Burial in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dan Mulligan, Michael Mulligan, Milton Mulligan, David Nardecchia, J. Ben Meyer and Joe Gyan.
