
Edwin Wyatt Fleshman was born Jan. 25, 1956, in Baton Rouge to Mr. and Mrs. Otis W. Fleshman and died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at the age of 52. A 1978 cum laude graduate of LSU in finance, he continued his education at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center. While there, Ed was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Law Review. After receiving a juris doctorate in 1981, Ed served as a law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Walter F. Marcus from 1981 to 1982. In 1982, Ed entered the private practice of law with the firm of Taylor, Porter, Brooks and Phillips, where he practiced until his death. During his years of practice, Ed was a member of the American, Louisiana and Baton Rouge bar associations, as well as the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. Mr. Fleshman served as a member of the voluntary board of directors of the Dyslexia Association of Greater Baton Rouge and the board for Brighton Academy. He was a member of the Board of Managers of Sentell Co. LLC. He also served as secretary and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church Foundation and a director of the Louisiana Presbyterian Foundation. He was a trustee, elder, deacon and the treasurer of the First Presbyterian Church of Baton Rouge. Ed will be remembered for his incredible kindness, his quick wit and the beauty of his character by all those who survive him, but especially, by his wife of 26 years, Nina Broyles Fleshman, his children, Elizabeth Ann Fleshman, David Clayton Fleshman, Dr. Steven Hart and his wife, Holli, and Christopher Reed Hart. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Wren Sadler Hart; and two brothers, Fred Fleshman and his wife, Glenda, and Roger Fleshman and his wife, Emily; his niece, Grace Fleshman; and nephew, Stephen Sanches. Preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Ethel "Mimi" Fleshman Sanches. He was beloved by family, friends and clients alike. Visitation at St. James Episcopal Church on Thursday, Jan. 31, was from 8:30 a.m. until the funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial was in the Young Family Cemetery in Plains.
