Elma “Sugar Brown” Gilmore, born on May 11, 1930 and passed away on February 21, 2026, at the age of 95. She was a native of Odenburg, LA and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Elma retired from LSU Cooperative Extension Service as a Nutrition Aide.
Elma is survived by her five daughters; Alma, Deborah, Sandra, Marie and Jamie; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and one brother, Hence Brown, Jr.
Preceded in death by her husband, James L. Gilmore, parents, Hence Brown Sr. and Memphis Coleman Brown; grandson, Erick J. Gilmore; stepson, James Washington, one brother and seven sisters.
Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA., Friday, March 6, 2026, from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Visitation will resume Saturday, March 7, 2026, at New Gideon Baptist Church, 2552 Balis Dr., Baton Rouge, LA., from 9:00 am until funeral service at 11:00 am. Interment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
