Elwyn W. “Wyn” Barnett passed away peacefully at his home on February 7, 2026, at the age of 70. He passed in his sleep after suffering a stroke. Wyn was born on July 8, 1955, in Baton Rouge and grew up in Sherwood Forest. He graduated from Broadmoor High School, class of 1972. He was a believer in Jesus Christ and in the eternal hope found in Him.
Wyn leaves to cherish his memory his wife of nearly 38 years, Vicki Barnett; two stepsons, AJ and Geoffery Hebert; 4 grandchildren; his brother, Randy Barnett and his partner Michell Prejean; nieces and nephews Brittany Barnett, Nate Barnett, Sheryl, Mary Catherine and John Mark Barnett; his cousins, Ronnie, Brent, Sandy and Robin Barnett; longtime friends, Todd Fisher, Matt Galey, Tommy Galey, Jen Griffin, Dave and Angie June and Paul Ramerez; and a host of family and friends.
Wyn was a sweet and loving guy who made friends everywhere he went. He was always ready to share a laugh, play some music, go fishing or just hang out at home with Vicki. He loved Blues and Rock & Roll and was an excellent lead guitarist. When he wasn’t playing music – and had to work – he was a great Salesman and worked for several large supply houses over the years.
Wyn was a Professional Bass Fisherman at one time and was sponsored by Wayne’s Marina. It was during this time that he developed and marketed his own line of fishing baits, Sniper Baits. His first and foremost love though, aside from Miss Vicki, was playing music on his guitar. He played with his brother Scott and his cousin Ronnie and as an impromptu featured guitarist with several bands playing in the Baton Rouge area over the years.
Wyn was preceded in death by his parents, E.E. and Joyce Barnett; his brother Scott and wife Liz Barnett; and his dear friend Tommy Worthy.
Per Wyn’s request there will be no service at this time. Perhaps a Celebration of Life at a later date. Please keep his wife and family in your prayers and, when you hear a great Blues guitar riff, think of Wyn and smile!
