
Genevieve Cox Collins, widow of Frank Collins Jr., died on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. Genevieve was born in Lecompte to Claude and Bessie Cox. She is survived by her son, Jimmy Collins, and his wife, Helen; and two nieces, Mary Lee McCoy, of Belen, N.M., and Barbara Gordon, of Greenville, Ga. Genevieve came to Baton Rouge to study at the LSU School of Music where she earned her master's degree in organ. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega and served as president two years. Following her marriage to her major professor, they traveled to Paris where Frank studied under the leading organist in the world, Marcel Dupré, and she studied under the blind organist at Notre Dame Cathedral, Louis Viérne. They returned to Baton Rouge where Genevieve served as organist and choir master at Trinity Episcopal Church for 40 years and at Temple B'nai Israel for 50 years. She was an active member of the American Guild of Organists, serving as Dean several times, and the Philharmonic Club. Visiting at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. Memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church Organ Fund. Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., is in charge of arrangements.
