
Beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, died at 12:05am Monday, May 19, 2014, at the Baton Rouge General-Bluebonnet. He was 89, a native of Newton, Illinois and a resident of Baton Rouge. George was a retired chemical engineer with Borden Chemical Company, with 30 years of service. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois, and served his country during World War II as a U.S. Navy veteran in the Pacific Theatre. George was an active member of the United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School Teacher, Bible Study Leader and helping with Vacation Bible School. He was an avid golfer. Visitation will be held at St. John's United Methodist Church on Wednesday from 10:30am until the religious service at 12:30pm, conducted by the Rev. Sarah Shoup. Interment with military honors will follow at Louisiana National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Dorothy Strole Bevis; two daughters: Barbara Marie Bevis, Deborah Sue Bevis; son: David Strole Bevis&wife Candy; granddaughter: Angie Bevis; grandson: Stephen Michael Zuber&wife Sarah Katherine; great-grandchildren: Anna Belle Zuber and Simeon Elijah Zuber; and numerous nieces&nephews.
