

"George Kirby Reech died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the age of 91. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Barbara, two daughters Deborah Porterfield and Susan Kendrick, four grandchildren Morgan Meyn, Jonathan Kendrick, Lucas Porterfied and Maggie Porterfield. He was a proud great-grandfather to William, Andrew, Rhea and Isla. He is also survived by two sisters Marie Reech and Delores Odom. Born on October 29, 1926 in Alexandria, LA, he graduated from Bolton High School, attended Texas A&M and graduated from Louisiana Tech in mechanical engineering in 1949. A proud member of the greatest generation, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had a long career as a sales engineer and retired from Riley Stoker in 1992. An avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and world traveler, he led a long and interesting life. Retirement years were also spent involved with The Sons of the American Revolution serving a term as Vice President General of the National SAR. His passion for current events, political news and financial matters was life long. He was preceded in death by his parents Kirby and Beatrice Reech, nephew Kirby Louis Shipp and infant sister, Marian Viola Reech. We are grateful for the wonderful care provided by the nurses at Audubon Hospice and the numerous caregivers who helped make his final days comfortable. Special thanks to Sylvia, Dianne, Josephine, Lacosha, Kim, Charmaine, Rachica, and Shericka. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in his name to a charity of your choice. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Rabenhorst East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 6PM until 8PM. Interment will be at a later date.
