Gretchen “Mimi” Kershaw Winston, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Jennings, passed away on Monday, October 8, 2012 at the age of 95. Gretchen was an avid reader and crossword puzzler and she loved a good story. She possessed a quiet wisdom, yet spoke her mind freely. Above all, she believed in the importance of family, and will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She is survived by daughter Ann Stegall and husband H.F. “Butch” Stegall; sons, Newton Winston and wife Betty, Roy Winston and wife Yvette, and Jack Winston Jr. and wife Diana; brother Donald Kershaw and wife Betty; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Winston Sr.; her parents, Newton H. Kershaw and Isaure Trumps Kershaw. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Greenoaks Funeral Home from 5pm until 8pm and resume on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 from 12pm until service at 2pm. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Roy Winston Jr., Jeff Winston, Winston Morris, Jacob Winston, Brandon Winston, and Jarred Southerland. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lawrence Yoakum, Butch Stegall, William Herrin, Carroll W. Carpenter, Jason Winston, Chase Morris and Kyle Winston.
