
Guy Christopher McDaniel, Jr. known to family and friends as Chris McDaniel, died on Saturday, March 24, 2018 in Baton Rouge after a brief illness. He was 70 years old. Chris was born in Baton Rouge in 1947. He was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School in 1965. He joined the US Army paratroopers in 1966, and served until 1969. He was with the 82nd Airborne Division stateside at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, where he volunteered for service in Vietnam. He then served in Vietnam from December of 1967 until December of 1968 with the famed 101st Airborne Division. Chris was a 1973 graduate of LSU, and while still in college, went to work for WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge as an investigative journalist, and later also as that news department assistant news director. In 1988, he began his career as a television news director in North Carolina, Ohio and Kentucky, until he retired from television career at the age of 51 in 1988. Chris continued working as a writer during his retirement, writing as a columnist for internet informational websites, and spent many years working on three books, which were meant to be private and unpublished. Services will be performed at graveside only, Greenoaks Memorial Park in Baton Rouge, officiated by his longtime friend John West, on Friday, March 30, 2018 at 12:00pm. Chris leaves his family, his brother Wayne, nephew Shawn, Shawn’s wife Kristi and a grandnephew Christopher, along with many cousins, aunts and uncles and valued lifelong friends. Chris lived as a Christian follower of Jesus Christ, and will be reunited at the side of God with those who preceded him in death, and one day, with those who follow.
