Harding J Alleman

Harding Joseph Alleman Sr., 87, died at his home the morning of Saturday, July 16, 2011. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in North Africa and Italy during World War II; he was active in the Anzio and Salerno invasions. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart Medal, two Bronze Star medals and numerous other medals for his military service. Prior to his service, he worked with the U.S. Civilian Conservation Corps and participated In the creation of national parks. After a long and successful career as the business manager at Delta Maintenance Inc., he worked as the parish administrator at St. George Parish Catholic Church. He also served as an officer in the following clubs: Woods and Waters, Hi-Lo Camping Club, Friendship Force and the Louisiana chapter of Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of numerous other organizations. Visitation at St. Gerard Majella Catholic Church, 5354 Plank Road, on Monday, July 18, from 10 a.m. until a Catholic service at noon. Interment will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his dear friend and wife of 64 years, Eveline Rousseau Alleman; two sons, Mark Alleman, and Harding Alleman Jr. and his wife, Charlotte; two daughters, Susan Alleman Hutchinson and her husband, John, and Mary Alleman and her husband, Nathan; five grandchildren, Brian Hutchinson and his wife, Bonnie, Carole Hutchinson, Stephen Kent and his wife, Janna, Joey Kent and Anna Kent; five great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Mary, Stella, Edna and Della. He was a native of Smoke Bend and lived in Baton Rouge since 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents, Veleor and Della Gregoire Alleman; and two brothers, Veleor and Herman Alleman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Charlie's Place Respite Center, 3772 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806-3822 or a charity of choice. The family wishes to thank all the sitters and caregivers who cared so lovingly for Harding, especially Jackie Brue, Shania Miller, Cheri Southern, Jacqueline, Deanne and Don.
