Born November 7, 1926, Hazel passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2015, at the age of 88. She joined again her special loved ones who preceded her in death; her husband she loved and was devoted to, Joseph "J.B." "Neff" Modicut Sr.; parents, Lula Miles Ousley and Jessie Miles; half sister, Billie Jean Powell; son, Joseph Modicut Jr.; brother, Travis Miles; sister, Juanita Summerville; and great grandson, Joseph Michael Cascio. Hazel lived her entire life with unconditional love and devotion to her family, never asking for anything yet giving everything. Hazel and her husband of 52 years, shared a devotion to their family owned store, Jay's Grocery, for over 30 years. Hazel also shared a deep love of the home that they built together 62 years ago. This home was always the place to be for parties, holiday dinners, sporting events, or just any time you wanted to be welcomed by her joyous spirit. She so generously opened this home and dedicated her life to help in the upbringing of four of her grandchildren. She also opened her heart and home to their friends, and even dogs that came along with them. Being "Granny" to everyone who knew her was her most cherished role, especially during the short but special time spent with her great grandson, Joseph. These years of her precious life was what she referred to as "fun time". Hazel also enjoyed precious time with her two best friends and sisters, "Nita" and "Teeter" whom she loved with all of her heart. She was fond of her youth and stayed 'wrinkle free' with her nightly Jergens cold creme ritual, and shared a love for cooking her specialties; steak, roast, rice and gravy, rice dressing, and spaghetti and meatballs. Hazel will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Toni Trcka and Madeline Cascio. Toni and son in law, Chuck Trcka, have always provided the most special care throughout her years and most recently at their home in League City, TX. Madeline, Hazel's youngest daughter, feels blessed to have shared a home with her mother for the past 21 years. Both daughters will forever cherish the lasting love and friendship with their mother. She will also be missed by her sister, Geraldine "Teeter" Spinosa. Five grandchildren and their spouses; Paul Fonte (Rikki), Julie Cascio Leak (David), Michael Cascio III (Stefanie), Jill Cascio Boullion (Jamie), and Mark Cascio (Kristen). Eight great grandchildren; Matthew, Andrew, Joshua, and Rylee Fonte, Davey Leak, Eloise and Charlotte Cate Cascio, Mamie Boullion, family friend; Michael Albarado, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers are Greg Politz, Jerry Politz, John Spinosa, Lucas Spinosa Jr., Joseph Spinosa, Charles Spinosa, Travis Spinosa, and Tim Spinosa. Services will be Thursday, February 26th, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with visitation at the church from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm and Mass of Christian Burial following. The funeral will be officiated by Rev. Father John H. Kappe and Deacon Daniel Guerra, both of Houston. Entombment will be at Greenoaks Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, in her honor, memorial donations can be made to the Hospice Foundation of Baton Rouge, St. Jude - Children's Research Hospital, or The Salvation Army.
