
Jack Littell, a Baton Rouge resident and retired sales manager of Missouri Pacific Railroad, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home. He was 85, born July 29, 1922, in Mounds, Ill. He worked for 62 years in transportation, 42 years with the Missouri Pacific Railroad in various positions and locations from 1941 to 1983, and 20 years with Mid-South Transportation Analysts, Baton Rouge, as a transportation analyst from 1984 to 2004. Mr. Littell was a graduate of the College of Advanced Traffic, Chicago; an Interstate Commerce Commission practitioner and a certified member and member emeritus of the American Society of Traffic&Transportation. He was also a past president of the Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter of ICC Practitioners; past president of the Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter of the American Society of Traffic, Transportation&Logistic; past president of the Delta Nu Alpha Transportation Fraternity of Shreveport; and past president of the Traffic Club in Shreveport and Baton Rouge. Tech. Sgt. Littell completed 35 combat missions over Germany in World War II, flying in a B-17 as a radio operator/gunner. He was awarded the Air Medal with five oak leaf clusters and was a lifetime member of the 381st Bomb Group and a member of the Louisiana Chapter of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society. Mr. Littell was a member of Florida Boulevard Baptist Church and served as Sunday school director and teacher and deacon emeritus. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, Feb. 21, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation resumes Friday from noon until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Louis Boyd and the Rev. Gerald Wheeler. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by two sons, John Michael Littell and wife Rosa, of Baton Rouge, and Thomas Dale Littell, of Cordova, Tenn.; a daughter, Jacqueline Marie Littell Bourgeois, of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Ruth Littell Erb, of Marissa, Ill., and Carol Littell Peddie, of Wickliffe, Ky.; sister-in-law, Laura May Cella, of La Center, Ky.; and eight grandchildren, Timothy Scott and David Gordon Littell and Kathie Marie Littell Christian, all of North Carolina, LuAnn Marie Littell, Renee Marie, Aaron Paul, and Patrick Lyle and wife Kendra Harris Bourgeois, all of Baton Rouge, and Shadoe Collins of Cordova. Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mabel Rabey Littell; parents, John Clyde and Ethel Taylor Littell; brother, Clyde Littell; sister, Ruby Wehrenberg; son-in-law, Michael Kenneth Bourgeois; and daughter-in-law, Kimber Littell. Pallbearers will be Aaron and Patrick Bourgeois, Raymond "Fred" Harris, Travis Boyd, Brandon Chatelain and Jordan Langford. Honorary pallbearers are the Senior Adult 2 Sunday School class of Florida Boulevard Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Florida Boulevard Baptist Church, American Heart Association of Louisiana or American Diabetes Association. The family would like to express their appreciation to his wonderful caregivers, Dot McGrath, Freya Swann, Anniebell McPipe and Dorothy Long.
