
Abbott, James RoyA loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, James Roy Abbott entered into his heavenly home at the age of 86. Jim was born on September 15, 1928 and passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2015 surrounded by his family. Jim was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church and was a retired plant accountant with Reynolds Metals Company after 40 years of dedicated service. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army having earned rank as a Staff Sargeant. Jim earned a B.S. in Economics and Commerce from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR. Jim leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Beth (Bettye) Abbott; three children and their spouses, Lisa Abbott Smith (Perry), Linda Abbott Richard (Steve), and James Paul Abbott (Evgeniyz Drizhachenko) "Ghenya"; six grandchildren, Brent Thomas Smith (Kaycee), Regan Smith Wright (Cole), Landon Steven Richard, Lauren Richard Kron (Bryan), Valentina Abbott, and Alexi Grigori Abbott; three great-grandchildren, Brodee Thomas Smith, Baylee Grace Smith and Paisley Noel Wright. Jim leaves a legacy to his family as one who loved unconditionally, supported strong sense of family, was a great provider and caretaker, one who taught the great lessons of life through worship and using logic to solve problems and issues, always honest and dependable, a man of strong work ethic, a value for learning and education, competition, and a positive attitude. His presence will be greatly missed, but his difference in life will carry on forever in our hearts and lives as his family, loved-ones and friends. Jim loved Arkansas football, golf, hunting and carpentry. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Roy and Mary Helen Abbott; and a brother, William Robert Abbott. Visitation will be Friday, April 17, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Saturday, April 18, from 9:00 am until services beginning at 10:00 am in the Chapel at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, lead by Rev. Ken Carroll. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park on Florida Blvd. Pallbearers will be his two grandsons, two sons-in-law, and two grandsons-in-law. In lieu of flowers, we request donations to Broadmoor United Methodist Church, The American Heart Association, or the National Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
