
A resident of New Orleans, he passed away surrounded by his family and loved ones on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, as the result of heart complications following knee surgery. He was born Oct. 6, 1939, in Port Allen. He served in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of captain during the Vietnam War. Following the war, Jim was a stockbroker in New Orleans. He was one of the first developers of "time sharing" condominiums in the French Quarter, as well as numerous developments in Mexico. Jim will be most remembered for his joyful appreciation of life and his extraordinary kindness and generosity to all he knew, particularly those in need. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Eva Marks of Baton Rouge; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Chuck Trashcher of Monroe; Dianna Marks of New Orleans; nieces and nephew, Melissa Hoffmann, Colleen Gollnick, Charlen Campbell and Rad Trascher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martineau and Jane Talbot Marks. Visitation at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church on La. 308 in Plattenville on Monday, Jan. 22, from noon until Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. Entombment in the church cemetery in the Lalande family tomb.
