James "Sunny" Lemons was a native of DeRidder and the son of the late Eugene and Margaret Pierre Lemons. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Gloria Hooper Lemons. He departed this life from his home in Baton Rouge on Monday, May 19, 2008, at age 75. James "Sunny" spent most of his life in East Baton Rouge Parish, where he received his education and attended Southern University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a retired U.S. Postal Service carrier with 33 years of service and a courier for Piccadilly Restaurant. James "Sunny" Lemons was a loyal and devoted 33rd Degree Prince Hall Mason, Ismael Temple 154, where he faithfully served as recorder. He also served with the East End Lodge 209 and the Baton Rouge Consistory 179. He was the advisor to the daughters of Isis Court 147. His service includes Imperial Deputy of Honor; Honorary Past Potentate, Honorary Past Imperial Potentate and member of the Phylaxis Society. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Andrew Goff, pastor. Brother James "Sunny" Lemons leaves to cherish with loving memory his devoted wife; beloved sister, Rose and husband Isaac Polk; stepchildren, Jane and husband Roosevelt, Karen and husband Louis Greenup, Cheryl Hooper Ricard, and Brian and wife Stephanie Hooper; beloved nephew, Eric, and wife Verly Polk; sisters-in-law, Margarite Williams, Annie Mae and husband George Willis; brother-in-law, Harvey and wife Jean Hooper; grandchildren, Josiah, Daniel, Ashley, Danielle and Rashawn; and a host of other relatives and friends. Viewing with Masonic Rites at Wesley United Methodist Church, 544 Government St., on Thursday, May 22, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral at the church was on Friday at 9 a.m. Burial in Port Hudson National Cemetery. The family wishes to express their profound appreciation for the many kind expressions of love and concern extended to them in their hour of bereavement. It is our prayer that God will continue to richly bless each and every one of you.
