With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Joseph Long, Jr., known to everyone as “Jimmie”, on May 2, 2025, in Baton Rouge at the age of 76. As a special needs person, Jimmie was a beloved member of our family and his large extended family. Jimmie’s greatest joy was to run into a friend and engage in conversation. Once you met Jimmie, you were his friend for life. He never forgot a name or a face. Jimmie could b-s his way through any conversation, but his favorite topics were the Dallas Cowboy and LSU Tiger football teams, whomever he had recently seen, and whatever holiday was next on the calendar. Jimmie also enjoyed playing bocce ball and bowling and was very proud of all his medals and trophies. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
Jimmie is predeceased by his parents, James J. Sr. and Eva Rita Schwabe Long, his nephew Connor Telfer, and his great niece Juno Roy. He is survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Vallie and Phil Telfer of Cary, NC, and Lori and Mark LeBlanc of Denham Springs, LA, brother and sister-in-law Patrick and Jackie Long of St. Francisville, LA, his best friend Kim Washington, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
There are no words to adequately express our deepest thanks to those who loved, befriended, and cared for Jimmie over the past 16 years, even “adopting” him into their own families, most especially Kim Washington, Latonia Armwood, Marian Jeffrey, and Cassia Daigre.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 8th, 2025, at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70815. A celebration of Jimmie’s life will be held following visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ARC Baton Rouge (https://thearcbr.org) or a charity of your choice.
