Jane was born to William Knox Laycock and Berta Holland Laycock on December 23, 1926, and was one of three daughters. A proud graduate of Louisiana State University, where she was a devoted 85-year member of the Chi Omega Sorority.
A true homemaker, Jane found joy in caring for her family and sharing her many talents. She was a master seamstress, crafting everything with skill and love. Her passion for genealogy led her to spend countless hours researching and preserving her family's history. She also had an insatiable appetite for reading and loved nothing more than a good book and a quiet afternoon.
Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Batson Staples, Jr.; her son, David R. Staples; her parents, William Knox Laycock and Berta Holland Laycock; and her sisters, Ann Laycock Wise and Berta Laycock Mayer.
She is survived by her sons, John Bowman Staples (Cindy Purvis) and Douglas Clark Staples (Debbie Hudson); her grandchildren, John “Bo” Bowman Staples Jr., Zachary Brian Staples, and Rickey Joseph Buhler; five great-grandchildren; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
The family will receive friends at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff at Sunrise Senior Living of Baton Rouge and the compassionate care team at Hospice of Baton Rouge.
