"Put God first and He will take care of you." Janet Marie Bourgeois Dietrich, our loving mom and MeMe, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the age of 90. Janet, a resident of Baton Rouge, was the matriarch of our family and raised eight children, all of whom, as she was very proud to say, graduated from LSU and remain faithful to their Catholic upbringing. Janet graduated from Morganza High School before attending Louisiana State University, where she met her future sweetheart and soul mate, Stewart. She later graduated from Baton Rouge Business College and eventually retired from the LA Dept. of Labor. Janet was a longtime parishioner of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and put God and family above all. She was an active participant in many groups, including Catholic Daughters of America, Third Order of Mary, Padre Pio Prayer Group, and Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Capitol House Nursing Center. Her devotion to her Catholic faith inspired her to establish a seminary scholarship fund through the Diocese of Baton Rouge. Janet mostly enjoyed praying, going to Mass, and spending time with her family. She valued her independence, still being able to drive at the age of 90. She was a passionate sports fan and especially enjoyed LSU baseball. Janet is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Dietrich and Diane DiPirro, and five sons, Guy, Dale, Daryl, Patrick, and Timothy Dietrich, all of Baton Rouge; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; one sister and one brother. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Stewart Dietrich, her son Glynn Dietrich, and her parents, Margaret and Paul Bourgeois. She will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Greenoaks Funeral Home from 5 pm to 9 pm with a recitation of the rosary at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church from 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 12 pm. Interment will follow on the grounds of Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her five sons, and son-in-law, Stephen DiPirro. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dietrich/Bourgeois Families Seminary Scholarship Fund at Vocations and Seminarians Dept. at PO Box 2028, Baton Rouge, LA 70821-2028 or to St. Vincent de Paul.
