"There will be a day with no more tears, no more pain and no more fears. There will be a day when the burdens of this place, will be no more, we'll see Jesus face to face." A native of Lake Charles and a resident of Baton Rouge, she passed away on Monday, November 12, 2012. She graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1953 and was Homecoming Queen her senior year, attended LSU for 2 years, was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity. She worked at the LSU Agriculture Co-Operative Extension for four years as Secretary to the Director until the birth of her first child. She was a homemaker and the rock of her family, whose moral, physical strength and dedication made the experiences her family enjoyed possible. She was an avid softball player, dancer and bowler, who taught her three children to play ball, and was a 2nd mother to all of her children's friends. She was a member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. Survived by her husband of 55 years, whom she married on August 16, 1957, J Alton "Cowboy" Barksdale; two daughters, Stacie Barksdale Raybon and husband Wendell Raybon and Marcy Barksdale Caraway and husband Mike Caraway; one son, Brett L Barksdale and wife Cindy Lamb Barksdale; three grandchildren, Lacee Carolyn Raybon, Shane Wesley Barksdale, and Jordan Blair Barksdale. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Helen Banker Chatelain. Visitation will be on Thursday, November 15, 2012 from 11am till service time at 2pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Special thanks to the staff of The Carpenter House. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St Joseph Hospice.
