She was born in Lafayette, LA to the late Alfred and Henrietta Mouton, where she was the youngest of five. After graduating from St. Cecilia High School in Broussard, LA, Jeanette studied Secretarial Science at Southwest Louisiana Institute. She then worked for the State of Louisiana Department of Family Services in Lafayette for three years. This is where she met her lifelong friend Mary Lemoine.
After moving to Baton Rouge, she met and married the late Albert Edward Coats. They both made the decision for Jeanette to stay home and raise her four boys. She was an exceptional wife and mother and cared deeply for her family and neighbors. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help and she always ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was fed and happy.
After her sons grew up, Jeanette continued her work career with The Greater Baton Rouge Kidney Center where she spent 20 years in the billing department and subsequently retired in 2004.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Edward Coats; her brother in law, Norman Coats and his wife Jane Coats; her brother, Gerald Mouton; her sister, Jackie Mouton; and her brother in law, Raoul Larriviere.
Jeanette will be missed dearly by her four sons, Scott Coats, Steve Coats and wife Kristen, Brad Coats, and Brett Coats and wife Melody; grandchildren, Kristen, Madison, Luke, and Lauren; great grandchildren, Aubrey, Jase, Brielle, and Kaine; her beloved sisters, Beverly Mouton and Catherine Larriviere; her Godchildren, Laurie Dawson and Geralyn Heaton; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Bertha Polland, Jessica T. Jarvis, Penny Boatner, Dusty Hinton, Jessica Farmer, and Amedisys Hospice for their tireless dedication and devotion to mom’s comfort in the last year of her life.
