

"John ""JB"" Baptiste DeLatin passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the age of 101. He was born in Oakdale, LA, on March 21, 1916, spent most of his young life in Many, LA and moved to Baton Rouge where he lived the rest of his life. As a veteran of WWII he served in the Army Air Corp. A member of America's greatest generation, he began his working career at the Western Auto store in downtown Baton Rouge, when he met his wife, the love of his life, Elaine. They would have celebrated 68 years of marriage in October of this year. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed watching LSU sports. When he was younger, he truly enjoyed raising and running his bird dogs. He was an usher and counted the offerings at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church for many years and also participated in adoration prayers from 2-3 am every Saturday for over 10 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Chapter 4030. John was willing to ignore his wants and needs, and sacrificed in order to allow his three children to attend Catholic schools from first through twelfth grades. He retired from Sears as a furniture salesman at the age of 67. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Monday, June 12, 2017 starting at 9:00am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am with interment to follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by loving wife, Elaine Treuil DeLatin; daughter and spouse, Kathleen DeLatin Rosso (John R); sons and spouses, Donald DeLatin (Mona M) and John B. DeLatin, Jr. (Tricia B); grandchildren, Steven, Michael, Laura DeLatin; Tara R. McGee, Bradley Watts, Laura and Jonathan Castille; great-grandchildren, Molly A. McGee; Chandler, Morgan and Dane Watts. Preceded in death by parents, Lillian and Francis J. DeLatin; sisters, Gladys Doerner and Irma Ryan. Pallbearers will be Steven and Michael DeLatin, Bradley Watts, Jonathan Castille, Patrick Ryan and Chad McGee. Thanks to the staff of St. Clare Manor, Hall 600, and to the staff of Notre Dame Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Catholic School, Catholic High School, or St. Vincent de Paul.
