

"A humble and caring husband, father and grandfather, John H. Jackson, Jr. 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at The Carpenter House in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was a 13-year resident at Williamsburg Retirement Community, a place he liked to call "home sweet home". A native and lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, he attended Catholic High School (class of 1940), LSU, and enlisted in the United States Navy serving on the USS Henry T. Allen as a Medic in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He retired after a 40-year career at Fidelity National Bank as vice president and manager of the Broadmoor branch. On January 29, 1948, he married Edna Elizabeth (Betty) Gerald at St. Joseph Cathedral and enjoyed 63 years together before her death in February 2011. He was very active in many civic groups and church organizations such as Junior Achievement, Lion's Club and at St. Joseph Cathedral and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic churches. Survivors include his three children; daughter, Jacquelyn A. (Jacquee) Carvin from New Orleans along with grandsons Christopher S. Leone (wife Lara), Christopher D. Carvin (wife Ingrid) and granddaughter, Jessica E. Carvin Luchenta (husband Joseph); two sons, Richard B. (Ric) Jackson, Florence, Alabama and Gerald P. (Jay) Jackson and wife, Joyce T. Jackson along with granddaughter Sara E. Kapp, grandsons Kyle M. Jackson (wife Emily) and Bret M. Jackson; and 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harvey Jackson, Sr. and Leontine Menier Jackson; his wife, Edna Elizabeth (Betty) Gerald Jackson. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 4th with visitation beginning at 9 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 AM celebrated by Rev. Cleo Milano. Services will conclude with burial at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery following the Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Catholic High School or Our Lady of Mercy St. Vincent de Paul Ministry. A special "thank you" to the wonderful staffs at Dr. Mike Castine's office and the Baton Rouge General Infusion Center as well as his adopted family at Williamsburg Retirement Community.
