

John Carlton Monroe III, age 83, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Born on November 13, 1941, in Hodge, Louisiana, John spent nearly his entire life in Baton Rouge, a city he helped to enrich through his work and service.
John was the devoted husband of Frances Hochenedel Monroe, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, adventure, and steadfast companionship. He was the proud father of J. Carlton Monroe IV (Jennifer Collins Monroe) and the late Byron Muller Monroe, and the brother of the late William Monroe.
A graduate of Bernard Terrace Elementary, Baton Rouge High School, and Louisiana State University, John earned a degree in Chemical Engineering and went on to a distinguished 37-year career with Dow Chemical.
John cared deeply for the natural and historic beauty of his community. He took great pride in maintaining the Monroe-Burden House, a significant family home located on the grounds of the Burden Museum and Gardens, where he volunteered as a docent and served as an important benefactor.
In later years, John and Frances discovered a shared passion for sailing, charting courses along the coasts of the United States and throughout the Caribbean. He was also an accomplished bridge player.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 10th from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place in a private ceremony at Roselawn Cemetery.
John will be remembered for living a life of honor, faithfulness, and gentleness.
