John Reid Scott, 68, of Baton Rouge, LA and formerly of Kennett Square, PA, died peacefully at home on March 22, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Memphis, TN, John graduated with a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University, where he was also a member of the ATO fraternity. After earning his Master's degree in Systems from the University of Southern California, John proudly served his country for over 37 years in the United States Marine Corps, including two tours in Vietnam as an infantry officer receiving a Bronze Star with "V". Ever looking for "˜more opportunities to pursue in life', John then joined the DuPont Company for over 40 years, and held various management positions in its chemicals and CORIAN® businesses, as well as its Safety Division. Finally, when most people John's age were ready to retire, John decided "˜why not try something new' and became the VP of the Environmental, Health&Safety division for the Shaw Group. As he moved among his various careers in different cities, John also sat on the Board of Delegates for the National Safety Council. One of his great pleasures was to take his beloved wife Teresa and his apple-of-his-eye daughter Katherine out for ice cream. Somehow after ice cream, John was able to squeeze in tennis and completing three marathons, including running the Marine Corps Marathon "“ twice "“ the second time to help celebrate his 60th birthday. John was predeceased by his father James Wallace Scott. He is survived by his best friend and love of his life, Teresa, and daughter Katherine, at home; and by his sons, John Reid, Jr. of Huntsville, AL, and Jefferson Thomas of Boston, MA; his mother Sally York of Covington, TN, sister Sarah Margaret, of Covington, TN, and brother James Wallace Scott, Jr, of Midland, TX, as well as three granddaughters, Caroline, Lauren and Independence, along with numerous nieces and nephews. John and his family are especially appreciative of their legion of supportive friends and relatives who have been by their sides during John's brave and courageous fight with cancer, which he fought with dignity, strength and unending humor.
