

"A self-titled Food Connoisseur, Puzzle Solver and Champion Card Player, "JC" Messina passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2017. He was 75 and a resident of Greenwell Springs. "JC" was a native of Addis and a U.S. Navy veteran. Visitation will be at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 03, from 10 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am celebrated by Rev. Jeff Bayhi. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Joseph C. Messina is survived by his wife of 30 years, Patsy Hebert Messina; daughters, Carla Walker and Ruffin Cross, Angela Magee, Denise Eller and husband Bobby, and Becky Watts; sons, Dennis Barbier and Linda Regira, and Daryl Barbier and wife Brittany; grandchildren, Catherine, Landon, Ryan, Jeremy, Valerie, Rachel, Stephen, Joshua, RyAnn, Ethan, and JayLynn; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlo Messina and Catherine Cannella Messina; and sister, Olivia Guidry. Pallbearers will be Daryl, Dennis and Ethan Barbier, Bobby Eller, Jeremy Magee and Landon Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Landry, Raymond Caillet, Aaron "AJ" Kimble and Paul Fourroux. "JC" was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and a 1961 graduate of St. John High School, Plaquemine. Special thanks to Dr. Eugene Thompson, Dr. Derrick Spell, Dr. Robert Grissom and the staff at Golden Age Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge.
