Josephine Prevot Hughes, born in Mansura, LA on February 16, 1923, died in Baton Rouge on August 30, 2023, at the age of 100. She was a resident of Lake Sherwood Village. She was predeceased by her husband, Otey Marvin Hughes, her son, Michael (Mitch) Todd Hughes, her parents, Guy Joseph Prevot and Nellie Glasscock Prevot, sisters, Teresa Prevot Juneau of Mansura, Helen (Pat) Prevot Mayo of Lexington, KY, and a brother, Malcolm Joseph Prevot of Berwyn, PA. She was a graduate of Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now University of Louisiana), one of the first female employees of the Ethyl plant operations in Baton Rouge after WWII and a long-time home economics teacher at Redemptorist High School where she influenced a generation of young Baton Rouge men and women. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking, travelling, the arts, going to the Fair Grounds Racetrack and sitting in the clubhouse on a Saturday afternoon, playing bridge and poker, and attending Thirsty Thursdays at Jamestowne Court where she lived for 35 years. She was a Pink Lady volunteer at Our Lady of the Lake, past board member of the Baton Rouge Regional Eye Bank, a member of Trianon, Penser et Parler and the Woman’s Club. Besides her family, nothing meant more to her than her Catholic faith. She and Marvin were long-time members of Our Lady of Mercy Parish. She is survived by her sister, Daphne Prevot Chatelain and her husband, Milton Chatelain, children, David Hughes and wife, Sandra Pettey, of Toronto, and Stephanie Fasth and husband, Michael Fasth, of Santa Barbara, CA., grandchildren, Allie Luicharoenwatthana (Tap), Karly Fasth, Collin Fasth (Kate), Dustin Hughes, Stacey Hughes, and Devon Hughes, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the many caregivers from Nursing Care Connections, Moore Care and Audubon Health for providing the special care she received during the last six years. Special thanks to Cheylonda Cooper, Isra Harris, Lakeisha Lewis, Shanora Baker, Sonya Barrett, Jeanette London, Carmen Darensbourg, Jennifer Pearson, and Carrie Davis. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 11 at 10:00 am with visitation beginning at 9:00 at Our Lady of Mercy in Baton Rouge with private burial in Greenoaks Cemetery.
