"The Lord bless you and keep you! The Lord let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you! The Lord look upon you kindly and give you peace!" (Numbers 6:24-26). Josie Cangelosi went to eternal rest with her Heavenly Father on May 15, 2014. She was 104 years old. She was a Baton Rouge native born on March 5, 1910, the third of seven children of the late Charles and Josephine Cangelosi. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Cathedral. She was a resident of Ollie Steele Burden Manor since 2007. As a young girl, Josie boarded at St. Joseph Academy. During her senior year she was voted Most Witty. She continued her studies at LSU. While at LSU, Josie and friends of Italian descent formed a philanthropic and social sorority, The Elenians, which continued until 1965. She earned a bachelor of science in business and accounting after which she served the state of Louisiana for 40 years in the department of revenue where she specialized in oil and gas. Being the last of her generation, Josie saw many loved ones pass away. However, she found great strength in her love of God, her Guardian Angel, and the growth of her family through marriages and births of new great nieces and nephews. Her loved ones fondly remember Easter egg hunts among the camellia bushes, visits to the park, theaters, and special trips throughout the United States and Europe. She took great pride as each completed professional degrees and became contributing members of the community. Mostly her family remembers the warm friendly greetings she unfailingly gave and her interest in our school life. Josie loved Baton Rouge and South Louisiana culture. She had a passion for travel, current events, politics, the stock market, bridge, and LSU football. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Josephine Cangelosi, and siblings: Rosalie Cangelosi, Chetta Cangelosi, Sara Cangelosi Cascio, Rosario (Buster) and wife, Margaret Rizzutto Cangelosi, and Sam and wife, Rosalie Greco Cangelosi. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Kathleen C. Couvillon, Carolyn and Tony Rizzutto, Josie and Terry Hebert, Margaret Rose Cascio, Gail and Leslie Tassin, Gayton and Elaine Cascio, Jo Carolyn and Cleveland LeBlanc, Mary Ann and Steven Sessums, Charlene and Charles Kreutz, Christine and Cy Case, Jo Constance Cangelosi, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. Her family will truly miss her. Miss Josie Cangelosi and her family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the nuns and priests and all the staff at Ollie Steele Burden Manor. Your caring professionalism over the years is very much appreciated. A special thank you to Joycelyn Gains, Nancy Butler, Bertha Rogers, Sharon Warren and Konisha Bruce. Your care of Aunt Josie is also greatly appreciated. Visitation will be at St. Frances Chapel at Ollie Steele on Monday, May 19 beginning at 11:00am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Internment is at Roselawn Cemetery.
