Joyce Harvey

Lovell Joyce Bowlin Harvey died Saturday, December 11, 2021, at the age of 86 of natural causes. Joyce was born Nov. 24, 1935 in Timpson, TX, and graduated in 1953 from Timpson High School. She moved to Shreveport where she attended Norton Business College and worked in Shreveport. She married Joe D. Harvey and had two children, Tina (Davis) and Ted. The marriage was dissolved and Joyce and the children moved to Tyler, TX where she was employed by Bankers Life and later at the Texas Highway Department. She remarried Joe and returned to Shreveport in 1962 where she worked for KTAL-TV for 8 ½ years. In 1971 the family moved to Baton Rouge where she worked for WRBT-TV (later WVLA-TV), with 26 years as Programs Director. TV was the love and passion of her professional life. At 61 she left the station under new ownership and ended her career at Moran Printing as Human Resources Director. She was a 30 year member of American Women in Radio & TV, served twice as president, and was program chair for many years. In 1996 she was voted Outstanding Woman of the Year by the organization. She participated in many charitable events through her media career and loved the Adopt-a-Pet Drive by WVLA. She was a longtime member of the La. Capitol City Obedience Club and loved training her toy poodles for competition. She retired in December 2005 and enjoyed gardening, beautiful flowers, movies and visiting family and friends. Writing was her hobby and she loved her cats and dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lovell Dan & Diamond Bowlin, ex-husband Joe D. Harvey, and brother Jeffery Bowlin. She leaves behind daughter Tina & husband Mike Davis, son Ted and wife Lisa Harvey, five grandchildren, Kyle and wife Jenee Harvey, Korey Harvey, Tyler and wife Heather Harvey; Haylee Davis Teem and husband Corey Teem, Samantha Davis Brumfield and husband J.P. Brumfield, and eight great grandchildren. She is survived by her sister Diane Tolmachoff, several nieces and nephews, and many cousins. She will be buried at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church in Timpson, Texas, at a later date.
