JW Wheat Entered into eternal rest at his residence In Baton Rouge, Louisiana on Friday, April 12. He was a native of Picayune, Mississippi, and was born on November 5, 1941. JW was an honorable man Who lived an enormous life whom he shared with his loving wife, Teddy of 55 years. Together they had five daughters and one son, Cindy Wiley (Bruce), Susan Hardin (Jim), Dana Turbeville-Yarbrough, Kim Bourgeois (Tab), Russell Wilton Wheat, and Gwyn Blood (Scott)
JW and Teddy shared 12 grandchildren whom they loved and adored; Brandon Wiley, Travis Wiley, Joshua Hardin, Justin Hardin, Ronnie Turbeville Sr., Jonathan Turbeville Sr., Logan Yarbrough, Shelby Bourgeois, Baylee Bourgeois, Caleb Blood, Aaron Blood, and John Blood. JW also has 15 great-grandchildren who will continue his legacy. JW was preceded in death by his only son Russell Wilson Wheat, his father James Wilton Wheat, and his mother Inez Mitchell Wheat. JW was a man of faith and his family was indeed his truest passion in life. Over the years he touched many other lives through his generous and selfless acts of kindness. As a business owner for over 20 years, he aided and assisted countless teenagers with employment as well as mentorship. Those were relationships that lasted a lifetime. JW never took the shortcut in life. He always went above and beyond to lend a hand to anyone in need and never met a stranger. His personality and love for life stood out in the crowd, as he did.
After retiring from self-employment, JW went back to work for AG Food Stores and worked as a butcher, as this was his previous trade for many years. During those years he met and befriended so many people who he spoke of often. JW was a well-respected man by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him as he treated everyone with the same love, kindness, and respect. There is no doubt, he made an impact and huge difference during his lifetime. He will forever be remembered and missed by many who shared the same passion for life as he did. Six of his grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Brandon Wiley, Travis Wiley, Jonathan Turbeville Sr., Logan Yarbrough, Joshua Hardin, and Caleb Blood. Honorary pallbearers: Justin Hardin, Aaron and John Blood. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Baton Rouge Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The following day a visitation at the funeral home will take place from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow.
