Leonie (Lee) Sue Lampert Caplan passed away on October 26, 2023 at the age of 80. She was born and raised in New Orleans and lived in Baton Rouge since 1973. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ralph Victor Caplan, daughters Holly Caplan (Abraham) and Allyson Chargois (Keith,) granddaughters Amanda Phares (Thomas) and Stella Koufos, great grandson Thomas Alexander, and brother Jack Lampert of New Orleans. She is preceded in death by her parents Herman and Anne Singer Lampert, her older sister Jane Hershberg and younger brother Kevin Lampert. She and Ralph owned Office Automation, Inc., a well-known local office equipment dealership for 27 years until retirement in 2006. Lee pioneered the paper shredding business in Baton Rouge. She has been President of Congregation B’nai Israel Sisterhood, District President of Women of Reform Judaism, B’nai Brith Women, Business Associates of Baton Rouge, and served as a board member for numerous other organizations. Her biggest passion was the Baton Rouge Regional Eye Bank and the Baton Rouge Eye Bank Auxiliary having served in numerous leadership roles at all levels. She always said, “You need your eyes!” as a simple reminder on the importance of saving vision. Lee was an active member of the Krewe of Iduna since 1983 and sponsored two queens, a king, two maids, and a page. She was a natural-born leader always striving to make the world a better place in her own unique and individual way. Creativity was one of her strongholds. She will be remembered by family and friends for her contagious positive attitude, kindness, and smile. “When the golden sun is setting and your mind is trouble free, while others you are thinking, won’t you sometimes think of me?” Burial services will be held at the Jewish Cemetery, 1415 North Street, Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Baton Rouge Eye Bank Auxiliary or Congregation B’nai Israel.
