

Marcia Dee Miller (Hanson), a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the age of 85 in Baton Rouge, LA. Marcia was born in Mason City, IA to parents Harold (Lois) Hanson and Mildred (Bill) DeRock on August 28, 1937. She was a proud graduate of Mason City High School in 1955. Marcia worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone where she met Albert A. Miller, Jr. Al and Marcia were united in marriage June 17, 1961. They were blessed with four children and made their home in Sioux City, IA. Marica worked at The Coney Island and St. Luke’s Hospital until retiring to Florida in 2000. Marcia relocated to Baton Rouge to be closer to her family in 2010. Marcia was a devout Catholic who leaves behind a great legacy of faith and love of family. Marcia lived a life of purpose and meaning. Marcia was beautiful on the inside and out. She had a deep, kind soul that loved fiercely, completely and without reservation. Marcia gave her best to those she loved, often more than she had to give, and she brought out the best in others. She found peace in nature and gardening and joy in the smiles of her children/grandchildren/great-grandchildren. She loved family, football games and times at the beach, giggling with her grandkids, staying active, creating beautiful places and experiences. Marcia will be truly missed but never forgotten. Those she leaves behind to cherish her memory are her son, Michael Miller and wife Linda, sons Garrett (Lauren), Zachary, and daughter Rachel; her daughter Michelle Penniman and husband Anthony, sons Michael, Hunter, and daughter Hannah; her son Thomas Miller and wife Sherre, son Christopher (Nyrene Haque) and daughter Sara (Zach) Edwards and their son Mason. She is survived and fondly remembered by her sister Marie (Jerry) Toman, Sister-in-law Agnes Miller, brother-in-law Raphael Miller, sister-in-law Linda Hanson, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Marcia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Albert A. Miller, Jr., her son Timothy, parents Harold Hanson and Mildred DeRock, brother Vincent Hanson and sister Mildred Hickey.
With respect to our mother’s wishes her cremains will be spread on the beach/waterfront in Florida later in a private service. In leu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to MP Climb On 501(c)(3) non-profit tax ID 81-1445314 at 921 56th Street, West Des Moines, IA 50266.
