

Born on April 3, 1928, native of Mamou, LA. and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA., passed away Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the age of 86. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother with a vivacious love for family and life that radiated to everyone around her. Sylvia truly had “joie de vivre”, with a unique sense of humor and happiness about life. She was a retired manager of Gus Mayer clothing store where she touched the lives of many women with her flair for fashion and her desire to help others feel and look their best. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Donna Calandro Toadvin of Baton Rouge, LA.; son, Samuel Keith Calandro and domestic partner, Robert Cameron of Los Angeles, CA., and granddaughter, Julia Toadvin. She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Dolzina Fontenot; her husband of 64 years, Samuel Calandro; daughter, Janet Guillory, and brother, Jesse Fontenot. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 9am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10am held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, officiated by Father Cleo Milano. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park along with a gathering for friends and family at Greenoaks Life Celebration Center.
