Stogner II, Thomas M. "Tommy, Mr. Tom"Thomas "Tom" Stogner, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of his heavenly Father on April 13, 2015, at the age of 72 after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma. Tom was born on June 26, 1942 in Alexandria, Louisiana to Thomas M. Stogner, Sr. and Winsome Mae Stogner. He grew up in Baton Rouge and graduated from Baton Rouge High School. Tom was employed in the trucking-transport business for more than 45 years. He is survived by one son, David Stogner and wife Tammy, two grandchildren, Brandon and Kayla, his former loving wife Lynda Kennedy Vince and her husband Raymond, three sisters Jeanne Scallan and her husband Adrian, Murwyne Politz and Patricia Wilhite and her husband Will, along with three nieces and seven nephews. His special little angel was his great niece Ame'lie who told him stories of Jesus and heaven, decorated his room with pictures of things that he loved and always shared her kisses and laughter with him as only a five year old can. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas M Stogner, Sr. and Winsome Mae Broussard. Perhaps his biggest contribution and legacy was his gift of mentoring children and his devotion to The Boy Scouts of America, being an active scoutmaster for more than fifty years. Since 1972 he was affiliated with The Istrouma Area Council, Troop 50 and was awarded the Order of the Arrow, the Silver Beaver award, one of Scouting's highest honors and numerous other awards for his long and dedicated service. He was also a very involved, long time member of the University United Methodist Church in Baton Rouge. His strong faith in God sustained him throughout his illness and earned him his heavenly reward. He will be missed by his family, friends and all those fortunate enough to have known him and call him friend. He loved all outdoor sports including hiking, camping, and sailing and was an accomplished and avid scuba diver holding certifications as both a Rescue Diver and Dive Master. He also held a black belt in Taekwondo. The family wishes to express their appreciation to all of his caretakers, friends, scouts and his faith community for the support and love we have been given and continue to receive. We also want to extend our love and appreciation to our true angel on earth, his former loving wife Lynda who was by his side throughout his illness and to her husband Raymond, who shared her selflessly. Visitation will take place on Saturday, April 18, 2015, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the University United Methodist Church, followed by a memorial service in the Sanctuary, with interment immediately following, officiated by Reverend Larry Miller and Reverend Carol Civils. In lieu of flowers we request donations be made to The Boy Scouts of America, Istrouma Council Troop 50, in Mr. Tom's memory.
