

Noreen Singleton Reed, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, passed away December 15, 2021, at Carpenter House in Lafayette. She was 97. Noreen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Reed, and her daughter-in-law, Miriam Mestayer Reed. She is survived by Ray’s sons, Andy Reed of Baton Rouge and John (Georgette) Reed of Lafayette, John’s sons, Ben (Kate) and Matt (Adrianne) Reed, and Georgette’s son, Hunter Hernandez, all of Lafayette, and seven great-grandchildren, Claire, Anna, Ryan, Laura, Beau, James and Thomas.
Noreen was born in the town of Harrow, outside of London, England, on September 8, 1924, the only child of Frederick and Elizabeth Singleton. She completed school there and began work as a bookkeeper. She moved to the States following World War II with her first husband, who was in the U.S. military. She moved to Baton Rouge in 1964, where she worked for many years as a bookkeeper, retiring from the business office of Trinity Episcopal Church. She married Ray in 1980 and they were longtime members of the Campus Bible Study Community. Noreen remained active in her church and community well into her nineties. She was a true English lady who loved to offer a cup of tea at any opportunity. She will be remembered as a kind and loving friend and family member by all who knew her.
Visitation will be at Green Oaks Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 21 from noon until services at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Ben, Matt and Hunter and Tommy Evans, Dan Reed and Kevin Wagner. The family wishes to thank the caregivers and staff at Williamsburg Care Center, where Noreen lived for the last few years of her life. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. More importantly, please honor Noreen’s memory by thinking of her from time to time and by being polite to all you meet.
