Norma went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at the age of 81 while surrounded by her family. The wake will be held at the Greenoaks Funeral Home located at 9595 Florida Boulevard on Friday, October 19th from 6-9pm, and on Saturday October 20th from 9am, until service at 10am. Norma was born in Greenville, MS on January 15, 1931. She was the youngest of seven children born to James William Edwards and Betty Lou Dotson Edwards. At the age of 26, she transferred from South Central Bell in Greenville, MS to South Central Bell in Baton Rouge, LA. Several months later, through a mutual friend, she was introduced to Fred Sanders, who was employed as a police officer with the Baton Rouge Police Department. After three months of dating, they married on May 16, 1957. With numerous years of experience, as a telephone operator with South Central Bell, Norma was later hired by the Baton Rouge Police Department as their PBX Supervisor. She retired from the City of Baton Rouge, BRPD, with 25 years of service. Prior to her husband’s death in 1985, Norma and Fred were married for 28 wonderful years. Norma is preceded in death by her parents James and Betty Edwards; husband, Fred Sanders; mother-in-law and father-in-law Henry and Agnes Sanders; 3 sisters Ethel E. Brown; Grace E. Edwards; Lillian E. Chapman; 2 brothers Otis Coy Edwards; James Virgil Edwards; 2 sisters-in-laws Francis Edwards; Sue Ellen R. Sanders; 7 brothers-in-law John Brown; John W. Chapman; George Edwards; Shelby Lowery, Sr., Wilbur B. Strickland; Odis M. Sanders, Sr.; Larry J. Sanders; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is survived by two daughters and two honorary sons Lisa Sanders Olson and Mark Rollin Olson of Denham Springs, LA; and Cathy Sanders Santana Jose’ Ramon Santana of Homestead, FL; 4 grandchildren Jordyn Alyse Olson and Tori Danielle Olson of Denham Springs, LA; Ryan Scott Santana and Elena Elizabeth Santana of Homestead FL; and 1 honorary granddaughter Jennifer Joan Blanchard of Los Angeles, CA; a sister, Lola E. Lowery of Eudora, AR; sisters and brothers-in-law Ann Strickland; Dorothy A. Sanders; Bobby and Dorothy Sanders; Billy C. Sanders, Sr. and Nell Sanders; all of Baton Rouge, LA, and Patricia and Louis Blanchard of St. Amant, LA and a host of nieces and nephews, and an extended family in North Branch, Elk River, and Big Lake, NM. Pallbearers will be Jason Alexander, Gerard Bloom, Patrick Bloom, Billy Sanders, Jr., Chad Sanders, and Odis Sanders, Jr. She attended Healing Place Church in Baton Rouge.
