

Paul E. Meyer of Baton Rouge passed away on February 26, 2013. A memorial service is scheduled for March 15, 2013 at 2pm at the chapel of St. Louis King of France Catholic Church. Born November 5, 1934, Paul had an adventurous journey that started in Jefferson, Texas. After graduating from high school, Paul joined the Army. Paul started his career as an enlisted Field Artillery Surveyor. He was quickly promoted to sergeant. He became frustrated at the lack of further promotion opportunity and applied to Office Candidate School. Paul completed OCS at the top of his class, and was commissioned as an Artillery Officer. His tours included service in multiple locations in the United States, Europe and Asia, including a combat tour in Vietnam. Among his many awards are the Bronze Star, the Parachutist and Senior Parachutist badges, as well as the Combat Infantry Badge. He commanded the 1st Battalion 30th Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Sill, OK, and under his leadership the battalion earned a number of unit citations. Paul worked tirelessly on both military and civilian education during his 21 years in the Army and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel, holding a Master’s degree in Human Relations. Paul retired to Baton Rouge and spent several years teaching high school Junior ROTC before moving on to a real estate career. Paul is survived by his wife Teresa; sons: Dave and wife Eilis, and Tom and wife Traci; grandchildren: Chris, Kevin, and Kate; step-son Rob Garrison; brother-in-law Lee Scott; and nieces and nephews in Longview, Texas. Paul was preceded in death by his father Asa Meyer, mother Leta Meyer, step-mother Cecile Meyer, and sister Emma Scott. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul’s honor to the Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, 550 Lobdell Ave. Baton Rouge, LA.
