Ralph Scott Mayer “Scott” passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the age of 73. He was a native and a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Scott is survived by his wife of 15 years, Claire Barham Mayer; children, Erin Marie Mayer and Joshua Wallace Mayer (Emily); stepchildren, Anna Claire Anderson, Charles Anderson (Melanie), and Elizabeth Anderson Pendarvis; and grandchildren, Joy and Alyssa Mayer, James, Pierce, and Ella Claire Pendarvis, Annalise and Wren Anderson, who all affectionately called him Coach. He is preceded in death by the mother of his children, Karen Wallace Mayer; and his parents, Ralph and Helen Mayer. Scott graduated from Baton Rouge High in 1969. He attended Millsaps College, graduated from LSU with a BS in Biology, and obtained two master’s degrees in education. He began his 33 year-long teaching/coaching career at Tara High School and retired from Broadmoor High School in 2013. He was passionate about investing time in his athletes and students and made a huge impact on many of their lives. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and LSU football. But above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. A visitation and memorial service will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home in the near future. The Mayer family would like to acknowledge that Scott gave the most precious gift anyone could give: the gift to save a life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Scott’s name to LOPA or Shriners Children’s. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.greenoaksfunerals.com
