Remembering Reverend Marguerite Rheams

Reverend Marguerite Rheams' Heavenly Father has called her to glory. She departed this earthly home on January 25, 2022.

Reverend Marguerite Rheams was the eldest of six siblings, who was born to and raised by her father, the (late) Morris Jordan, Sr. and her loving mother, Velma Barnes in Denham Springs, La. She began her journey on March 2, 1947.

Reverend Marguerite Rheams was baptized at an early age, as a member of Roberts United Methodist Church (UMC), Denham Springs, La. She attended Roberts UMC Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served as the choir president for over ten years. She served faithfully as a disciple in various areas of ministry, including but not limited to: President of the adult choir for more than 10 years; Leader of Monday Night Intercessory Prayer group under Dr. Alonzo Campbell; Chairperson of the Roberts (UMC) Evangelism Team; Vice Chair of the Roberts Administrative Board; the Finance Committee secretary; Liturgist for the Sunday worship service; Vacation Bible School teacher; Organizer & Coordinator of Roberts prayer line. Being a woman of the Cloth, she attended the Louisiana Conference Spiritual Academy, Track I. In obedience to God, she was led to be baptized by immersion at Bethany Church, Baton Rouge, La.

Reverend Marguerite Rheams, a virtuous woman, received her ministry license in 1997. She graduated from the International Fellowship of Faith Churches Bible Institute in Baton Rouge, LA, and completed the License to Preach School of the Louisiana Conference (UMC) at Millsaps College in Jackson, MS.

Reverend Marguerite Rheams was asked to serve as Pastor at St. James (UMC) in Springfield, La. She would later Pastor St. Luke (UMC) in Central, LA until her retirement.

Reverend Marguerite Rheams retired as Administrative Manager, after more than 30 years with the Louisiana Department of Health & Hospitals. She also held a seat on the boards of Southeastern Louisiana University and Denham Springs Housing Authority.

Reverend Marguerite Rheams allowed God’s spirit to work powerfully through her life and hands. Her great compassion to reach young people and concern for others, even in her youth, generated testimonies from near and far. Reverend Marguerite often received telephone calls from individuals whom she never met and were searching for a listening ear and a caring spirit to pray with and for them. Her gift made room for her and caused people to speak her name in rooms she had never been in (Proverbs 18:16). Her ministry was centered around the love for God's people.

Reverend Marguerite Rheams served as a presenter at the 2005 W.T. Handy Convocation. Her ministerial discourse was rendered to an overpowering crowd from all over Louisiana. During her three-night healing services at Roberts, there were many testimonies of blessings and healings received from the Lord. Marguerite’s goal was to make a difference in the kingdom of God. She knew prayer makes a difference, and God provided an opportunity for her to be a blessing to people on a mission trip to Senegal, West Africa, where she prayed, preached, and assisted the accompanying medical team. The fresh anointing, she seemed to exude caused the locals to invite her back the following year to conduct a revival.

She leaves to cherish loving memories of her life: her mother, Velma Barnes, her bonus mother in love, Henrietta Jordan, her children: Lanzella Walker, Geraldine Moore (Lorenzo) and Lanzell Walker III; her God child, Roneisha Dorsey; three bonus children, Ventress Aeneid, Willie Rheams Jr (Aliya) and Rachelle Aikens; in addition to siblings, Georgia Spikes, Morris Jordan, Jr. (Sandra), Cynthia Johnson (Frankie), Altoris Jordan (Linda), & Elnora Gibson; her first husband, Lanzell Walker Jr. She also leaves unconditional love to her six grandchildren: Lekeisha, Farica, Cherie, Lorenzo II, Cameron, and Landon; her great grand angels, KeShawnta', Keshon, Fred, Keniya, Deshon, Jr., Robeon, D’moreon, Jason, Jr., Rihanna, Cameron, Jr and Lorenzo III, along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and her church family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie E. Rheams Sr, her father, Morris Jordan Sr and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
