Richard Edward Munson, Rick, born August 1, 1941, in Houma, Louisiana went to his heavenly reward on February 19, 2025. Rick passed away peacefully at his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A brilliant, loving man, with a great sense of humor, and simple wants, the only prideful part of him was being the father of Allison Munson Cook (Dr. Clay Cook) and John Richard Munson (Michele May). He loved Allison and John truly without measure and they were his pride and joy. Rick lived his life modeling the words of the Our Father first instilled in him by the Sisters at Holy Savior in Lockport, Louisiana. To hear Rick say the Our Father was a thing of beauty.
Rick grew up in Matthews, Louisiana on the South Coast Plantation where his father worked as a sugar chemist. Rick married his high school sweetheart, Geri Claudet (Geraldine Rita) on August 22, 1963. The two started their married life by being sent to Germany, Rick as a second lieutenant in the Chemical Corp of the Army. While there he was sent to Oberammergau, to attend a nuclear weapons school with members from other nations. Rick placed first in the class and was invited to teach the class of arriving cadets the following session.
Rick made his mark in the world after attending LSU and earning a degree in Chemistry and an MBA. When he was thirty-nine years old, he sat up in bed in the middle of the night saying he knew the answer. The answer was a new process to filter completion fluid on offshore oil rigs. The process was patented and is used all over the world today. Rick felt accomplished but never prideful over his invention. He simply felt he used the talent and intellect God blessed him with.
Rick was also an accomplished athlete, having been quarterback of his Holy Savior high school football team, a tennis player, and avid golfer. His loyal golf buddies were Jim Crane, Dr. Loren Scott, Bill Hyde, Curtis Baham, and Dr. Henry Manning.
Rick’s parents were Clyde Francis Munson and Annabel Cocke Munson (both deceased). Rick’s siblings are Katharine Munson Smith (Byron, deceased) and Clyde Francis Munson (deceased) (Faye Raye).
He will be missed by all who knew him but mostly by his loving wife, children and grandchildren: Elizabeth Chapman Cook, William Clayton Joseph Cook, Jessica May Munson, Jackson Richard Munson, and Mitchel John Munson.
When the golden gates of heaven open St. Peter will surely say to Rick, “Welcome home, my good and faithful servant”
